Description
Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru 2009 is a striking expression of one of Chambolle-Musigny’s most admired premier cru sites. From a celebrated vintage in Burgundy, it combines refined Pinot Noir elegance with impressive depth, offering a wine that captures both the finesse of the appellation and the personality of the terroir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2009 shows the kind of polished, mature Pinot Noir character that Burgundy lovers prize. Expect a bouquet of ripe red cherry, raspberry, violet, forest floor, and a subtle spice note, lifted by a clear mineral edge from the vineyard’s limestone- and clay-rich soils.
On the palate, it is silky and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a concentrated core of red fruit wrapped in layers of earth, florals, and gentle oak. It is drinking well now, but it also has the structure and complexity to continue developing gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
Production
The Aux Beaux Bruns vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny is known for its deep clay and limestone soils, which help produce wines with both finesse and structure. The 2009 vintage benefitted from a warm, dry growing season that delivered fully ripe fruit with excellent concentration and balance. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted before undergoing traditional vinification with natural fermentation, followed by aging in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, to add depth without overshadowing the wine’s natural purity.
Food & Serving
This Premier Cru Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its elegance and subtle complexity, such as roast duck, pigeon, mushroom risotto, veal, or grilled salmon. Serve it slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if it is recently opened, especially to help the aromatics unfold.
