Gergenti Il Vero Siciliano 2023 is a true taste of Sicily, bringing together Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Frappato in a balanced, characterful red. Six months in oak adds extra depth and polish, while preserving the ripe fruit and sun-soaked personality that make Sicilian wines so distinctive.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep ruby color that hints at its generous style. The nose is layered with aromas of ripe berries, plums and blackcurrants, followed by more savory notes of spice and earthy richness. On the palate, it offers excellent concentration and a well-balanced mix of mature red fruit, liquorice, tobacco and cocoa. The tannins are soft and smooth, leading into a long, rounded finish. It is approachable now, but has enough structure and complexity to hold up well over the next few years.

Production
The grapes for this cuvée are harvested from hillside vineyards in Sicily, where warm days and cooling influences help the fruit reach optimum ripeness while keeping freshness and balance. The blend of native Sicilian varieties is then aged for around six months in oak barrels, giving the wine added texture, spice and complexity without overpowering its fruit-driven core.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for meat dishes, slow-cooked stews, pasta with rich sauces, mature cheeses and charcuterie. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting briefly if drinking young to help the aromas open up and soften the wine further.
