Description

Vigne Alto Adige Gewurztraminer 2024 showcases the aromatic intensity and Alpine purity that have made this variety a calling card of northern Italy. Grown in the cool, high-altitude vineyards of Alto Adige, it delivers vivid perfume, precise fruit and a refreshing, mountain-driven freshness. This is a modern expression of a grape that has long thrived in the Dolomite foothills, where Germanic and Italian wine traditions meet.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Gewurztraminer typically shows a bright, pale to medium straw color with golden highlights, hinting at its aromatic richness. The nose is expressive and heady: rose petals, lychee and Turkish delight are joined by notes of ripe peach, candied citrus peel and a gentle spice profile reminiscent of ginger and white pepper. On the palate, expect a generous, almost oily texture balanced by Alto Adige’s hallmark freshness. Flavors of exotic fruits (lychee, mango), ripe pear and nectarine are layered with floral tones and a subtle herbal lift. The finish is long, spicy and slightly saline, underlining its mountain origin. Most bottles will drink beautifully on release and over the next 3–4 years, when the wine’s aromatic intensity and primary fruit are at their peak.

Production
Sourced from hillside vineyards in Alto Adige, this wine benefits from a combination of warm, sun-exposed days and cool nights that help Gewurztraminer retain its acidity while fully developing its aromatics. Soils in the region are typically a mix of porous dolomitic rock, gravel and morainic deposits, providing excellent drainage and mineral nuance. Grapes are usually harvested by hand to preserve berry integrity and carefully sorted before a gentle pressing. A cool, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel helps lock in the grape’s natural perfume and freshness, while aging on fine lees for a short period can add texture and complexity without masking the varietal character.

Food & Serving
Gewurztraminer from Alto Adige is particularly versatile at the table, especially with boldly seasoned or aromatic dishes. Try it with spicy Asian cuisine (Thai curries, Vietnamese salads), Indian dishes featuring coconut milk or mild to medium heat, or richly spiced Middle Eastern mezze. It also pairs beautifully with soft washed-rind cheeses, foie gras, roast poultry with fruit-based sauces, and aromatic vegetarian dishes featuring ginger, lemongrass or curry spices. Serve chilled but not icy, ideally at 9–11°C (48–52°F), to let the aromatics fully express themselves. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving can help the bouquet unfurl.
