Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Ravera shows a luminous garnet core with delicate brick hues at the rim, typical of classic Nebbiolo. The nose opens with wild forest berries and red cherries, followed by notes of licorice root, dried rose petals, sweet summer fruits and a hint of spice and underbrush. On the palate, this Barolo is focused and finely chiseled, with lively acidity that carries precise, pure red-fruit flavors. Wild berries, sour cherry and pomegranate are layered with nuances of anise, violet, tobacco leaf and mineral undertones from the Ravera soils. The tannins are firm yet refined, giving a taut, vertical structure that promises excellent evolution in bottle. While already compelling with air, this wine is built for aging and should develop added complexity and tertiary notes over 10–20 years, and likely beyond in optimal cellaring conditions.

Production
Ravera is located in the village of Novello, a cru known for its open panoramas, calcareous-marl soils and cooler temperatures influenced by nearby Alpine currents. These conditions extend the growing season, allowing Nebbiolo to ripen slowly while preserving vibrant acidity and aromatic detail. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of bunches in the vineyard. In the cellar, G.D. Vajra follows a traditionally minded approach: gentle, extended maceration of Nebbiolo on its skins to extract fine tannins and aromatic complexity, followed by long maturation in large neutral oak casks. This combination of high-altitude terroir and classic vinification yields a Barolo that is both precise and ageworthy, with a clear sense of place.
