Description
Gayda Chemin de Moscou is one of Domaine Gayda’s most distinctive cuvées: a rich, deeply flavored red built on Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault from the estate’s own vineyards in Minervois and Roussillon. Named after the road that runs beside the property, it reflects both the character of the Pays d’Oc and the winery’s modern, terroir-driven approach.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2022 vintage shows a dark, concentrated core with plenty of depth and color. The nose opens with blackberries, liquorice and warming spice, with hints of cinnamon and a subtle smoky, oak-influenced complexity. On the palate it is full-bodied and generous, with ripe fruit, bright acidity and plenty of juiciness balancing the wine’s power; the finish is rounded and long, with a touch of firmness that gives it structure and aging potential.
The blend is led by 72% Syrah, supported by 22% Grenache and 6% Cinsault, creating a wine that feels both intense and layered. While already highly enjoyable for its ripe fruit and smooth texture, it should continue to gain harmony over the next few years as the oak and tannins integrate further.
Production
The grapes come from Domaine Gayda’s estate vineyards in Minervois and Roussillon, where the warm southern climate and varied soils provide the ripeness and concentration needed for this cuvée. The wine spends a total of 21 months in oak: one third of the Syrah is aged for nine months in new Burgundian barriques, while Grenache and Cinsault mature in demi-muids and foudres for the same period. After blending from the best barrels, the wine continues to age for a further 12 months in the same casks, building depth, balance and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for hearty dishes such as braised beef, grilled entrecôte or ribeye, and lamb with rosemary. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if drinking now to let the wine open fully and soften its structure.
Producer
Domaine Gayda is a respected producer in the Languedoc, known for combining modern winemaking with a strong sense of place. Based in the Pays d’Oc, the estate has earned a reputation for precise, expressive wines that highlight the character of southern French terroir, with Chemin de Moscou standing as one of its flagship cuvées.
