Gancedo, Xestal Mencía 2022

Gancedo Xestal Mencía 2022 is a characterful red wine from Bierzo, one of north-western Spain’s most exciting regions. Production
The vineyards are situated in Bierzo, where many plots lie at elevations of approximately 300 to 800 metres above sea level. The region’s varied mountain-influenced climate and the balance between cool Atlantic conditions and warmer continental influences help Mencía retain freshness while developing ripe, expressive fruit. Gancedo farms its vineyards organically and follows a traditional approach focused on quality, sustainability and healthy soils. Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, around 15–17°C, to highlight the wine’s freshness and aromatic character. It pairs well with roast poultry, grilled pork, lamb, Iberian cured meats, mushroom dishes and hearty vegetable stews. The wine generally benefits from a short decant of around 20–30 minutes, particularly when served young, although careful pouring directly from the bottle will also preserve its vibrant fruit profile.

Bodegas Gancedo is a family-owned winery based in Quilós, near Cacabelos, in the heart of El Bierzo. The family has made wine in the region for generations and today manages approximately 85 hectares of vineyards. Its work is centred on producing high-quality Bierzo wines in a traditional style, with a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture. After years of focusing on biodiversity, soil health and responsible farming, the estate has obtained CAECYL certification for organic agriculture—an important reflection of its ambition to work in harmony with nature.
