Description
Gabe Alabastro Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze Brut 2024 is a refined expression of Prosecco from the most prized hill in Valdobbiadene. Crafted from 100% Glera and sourced exclusively from Cartizze’s steep, sun‑drenched slopes, this sparkling wine balances luxury and freshness in a beautifully precise Brut style. It’s a modern take on one of Italy’s most celebrated sparkling terroirs, made for those who appreciate purity, finesse and a touch of indulgence.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Cartizze shines a brilliant, pale straw yellow with silvery highlights and a persistent, fine bead of bubbles that forms a delicate mousse. The nose is immediately expressive, with layered aromas of white peach, Williams pear, crisp apple and citrus zest, wrapped in notes of acacia blossom, jasmine and a hint of almond and fresh brioche.
On the palate, the Brut dosage shows as taut, clean and refreshingly dry for a Cartizze, emphasizing minerality and tension over sweetness. Juicy stone fruit, pear and lemon curd glide over a lively, mouthwatering acidity, framed by a subtle creamy texture from extended lees contact. The finish is long, bright and saline, with lingering notes of citrus, white flowers and a gentle, chalky grip. Enjoy it in its youth for maximum vibrancy, though it will hold and develop a touch more complexity over the next 2–3 years.
Production
This Gabe Alabastro cuvée is sourced from select parcels within the Cartizze hill in Valdobbiadene, a south‑facing amphitheatre of steep, hand‑tended vineyards on ancient, rocky soils rich in limestone and marl. The combination of altitude, dramatic day‑night temperature swings and constant breezes creates ideal conditions for slowly ripening Glera grapes with intense aromatics and natural acidity. Harvest is carried out entirely by hand to preserve bunch integrity on the challenging slopes, followed by gentle pressing of whole clusters. The base wine is fermented at controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel to lock in freshness and primary aromas, then undergoes a secondary fermentation using the Charmat-Martinotti method in pressurised tanks. A carefully judged Brut dosage keeps the wine dry and focused, while a period on fine lees prior to bottling adds texture and complexity without sacrificing the crisp, polished style.
Food & Serving
This Cartizze Brut is an effortlessly versatile sparkling wine, ideal both as an elegant aperitif and at the table. Pair it with delicate seafood such as oysters, scallop crudo, shrimp tartare or lightly fried calamari, or match it to sushi, sashimi and ceviche where its bright acidity cuts through richness. It also works beautifully with fresh goat cheese, burrata, prosciutto and melon, tempura vegetables, and light poultry or vegetable dishes with citrus or herb accents. Serve well chilled at 6–8°C (43–46°F) in a tulip‑shaped sparkling wine glass to emphasize both aroma and texture. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle a few minutes before serving to allow the bouquet to fully express itself.
