Description

Frescobaldi’s Castelgiocondo Brunello 1991 is a classic Tuscan red that shows why Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy’s most celebrated wines. Made from 100% Sangiovese and aged for a minimum of four years in oak, it combines depth, structure, and a beautifully refined character. Bottled from a historic vintage, it’s a wine with real presence and pedigree.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it pours a deep red color with mature garnet hints beginning to show around the edge. The nose is layered and expressive, unfolding with ripe dark fruit, warm spice, and notes of tobacco that add complexity and elegance. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet graceful, with silky tannins, balanced structure, and a long, persistent finish. The wine’s maturity adds nuance and polish, while still preserving enough backbone to continue showing well. It is drinking beautifully now, with the potential to hold its charm over the near term if stored properly.

Production
Produced in Tuscany from 100% Sangiovese, this Brunello reflects the character of the Castelgiocondo estate and its well-regarded Montalcino terroir. The wine is traditionally crafted and then aged for at least four years in oak barrels before bottling, allowing the tannins to soften and the aromatics to develop greater complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted or grilled red meats, game dishes, and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C to bring out its full aromatic range and elegance. Decanting is recommended, especially if you want to help the wine open up and reveal its deeper layers more fully.

Producer
Castelgiocondo is part of the historic Frescobaldi family, one of Tuscany’s most important wine names with centuries of winemaking heritage. The estate is strongly associated with Brunello di Montalcino and has long been recognized for producing wines that express both tradition and finesse. Its reputation in the region is built on quality, consistency, and a deep connection to Tuscan viticulture.
