Description
Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern’s Rauenthaler Baiken Riesling Eiswein 1992 is a luxurious Rheingau treasure, crafted from grapes harvested in freezing conditions to capture remarkable concentration and purity. Presented in a 0.5-litre bottle and gift box, it is an exceptional choice for marking special occasions and for collectors who appreciate classic German dessert wine craftsmanship.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Eiswein shows a beautiful golden hue, hinting at its richness and maturity. The nose is intensely fragrant, with layers of ripe peach, apricot, and honey, lifted by subtle citrus and spice notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and sweet yet beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity, giving the wine freshness, precision, and a long, graceful finish.
Its combination of sweetness and acidity makes it especially appealing now, while also giving it the structure to age further under ideal cellar conditions. With time, the wine can gain even more complexity, developing deeper honeyed and dried-fruit nuances.
Production
Made in the Rheingau from Riesling grapes grown in the Rauenthaler Baiken vineyard, this Eiswein reflects one of Germany’s most celebrated regions for noble sweet wines. The grapes are left on the vine until temperatures fall below freezing, allowing the water in the berries to crystallize and the remaining juice to become intensely concentrated. Careful hand harvesting and gentle vinification preserve the wine’s clarity, aromatic intensity, and natural balance.
Food & Serving
Serve this Eiswein lightly chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to best showcase its aromatic depth and lively acidity. It is a superb match for fruit-based desserts, tarte Tatin, crème brûlée, blue cheese, or simply enjoyed on its own as a refined after-dinner wine. Decanting is generally not necessary; gentle opening and a short rest in the glass are usually enough.
