Description

Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern’s Marcobrunner Riesling Edelbeerenauslese 1947 is a rare Rheingau treasure, crafted from hand-selected botrytized grapes for exceptional richness and depth. From one of the 20th century’s most celebrated vintages, this wine combines noble sweetness with striking balance and a distinctly classic German elegance.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep golden hue that hints at its age and concentration. The bouquet is intensely layered, with aromas of honey, apricot, ripe peach, and a fine mineral edge that adds definition and freshness. On the palate, it is full-bodied and lusciously sweet, yet never heavy, thanks to the vibrant acidity that keeps everything in balance. The finish is long and persistent, leaving notes of stone fruit, honeyed richness, and a subtle saline-mineral impression. With its structure and concentration, it has the poise to continue impressively in bottle for years to come.

Production
This Edelbeerenauslese comes from Marcobrunner in the Rheingau, a site known for producing wines of remarkable finesse, precision, and aging potential. The grapes were harvested by hand and selected only when affected by Botrytis cinerea, which concentrates sugars, acids, and flavor compounds, resulting in an intensely complex dessert wine. Vinification would have been handled with great care to preserve the wine’s natural balance, purity, and aromatic intensity.

Food & Serving
Serve at 8–10°C to best appreciate its layered sweetness and freshness. It is an excellent companion to fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, blue cheese, or can also be enjoyed beautifully as an aperitif; decanting is generally not necessary, though a gentle opening ahead of serving may help reveal its full aromatic range.

Producer
Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern is a respected Rheingau estate with deep roots in one of Germany’s most historic wine regions. Known for site-driven wines and a strong tradition of quality, the producer has long been associated with classic, age-worthy Riesling expressions. Bottlings from exceptional vintages such as 1947 reflect the estate’s enduring reputation for precision and prestige.
