Description
The Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Hattenheimer Nußbrunnen Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2003 is a rare Rheingau treasure, crafted from hand-harvested grapes selected at extraordinary ripeness. Rich, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, it represents one of Germany’s most celebrated sweet wine styles and a remarkable expression of the Hattenheimer Nußbrunnen site.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a luminous golden hue, hinting at its concentration and maturity. The nose is intensely aromatic, with layers of ripe peach, apricot, and honey, lifted by a subtle mineral edge that gives the wine definition and elegance.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and lusciously sweet, yet kept in perfect harmony by vibrant acidity. The finish is long and persistent, carrying notes of stone fruit, honeyed richness, and a delicate saline-mineral nuance. Given its structure and sweetness, it has excellent aging potential and can continue to evolve gracefully over many years.
Production
Produced in the Rheingau from grapes selected by hand from the estate’s finest vineyards, this Trockenbeerenauslese reflects both the exceptional terroir of Hattenheimer Nußbrunnen and the careful precision required for this noble sweet-wine style. The wine is made only in years when conditions allow for the concentration of sugar and flavor through natural shriveling of the grapes, resulting in a highly individual and intensely expressive wine.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with refined desserts such as crème brûlée, fruit sorbets, tarte Tatin, or a delicate blue cheese. It can also be served beautifully as a contemplative aperitif or as a luxurious finish to a special evening. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary.
