Description

Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen Riesling Auslese 1971 is a rare and elegant expression from one of the Rheingau’s most celebrated sites. Made from carefully selected hand-harvested grapes, it combines richness, precision and classic Riesling finesse in a style that has long made Auslese wines prized by collectors and lovers of aged German wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful golden-yellow hue that reflects its maturity and concentration. The bouquet is generous and layered, with ripe fruit, honey and delicate herbal notes leading the way. On the palate, it is full-bodied and complex, with a finely balanced interplay of sweetness and acidity that keeps the wine vibrant and graceful. The finish is long, fresh and elegant, and while it is already beautifully evolved, the wine still offers the kind of structure that allows for further appreciation in the cellar.

Production
This wine comes from Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen in the Rheingau, a site known for producing expressive, terroir-driven Rieslings with both ripeness and mineral tension. The grapes were harvested by hand and strictly selected to ensure only the best fruit was used for this Auslese. Vinification would have been aimed at preserving the natural aromatic intensity and balance characteristic of top-level Riesling from this region.

Food & Serving
A superb match for fruit-based desserts, creamy cheeses and blue cheese, as well as richly flavored pastry dishes. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative wine. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a brief airing in the glass can help the aromas open beautifully.

Producer
Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern is a respected historic estate in the Rheingau, a region with a long and distinguished tradition of world-class Riesling production. The estate is known for its connection to classic vineyard sites and its commitment to producing wines with elegance, ageability and regional character. Over time, it has built a reputation among collectors for wines that capture the depth and refinement of the Rheingau.
