Description

Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern’s Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 1999 is a rare and luxurious dessert wine from one of Germany’s most celebrated sweet wine styles. Made from exceptionally ripe Riesling grapes left on the vine until concentrated by noble rot, it offers remarkable intensity, elegance, and balance—a true expression of Rheingau tradition.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep golden-yellow color that hints at its richness and age. The bouquet is opulent and layered, with aromas of apricot, peach, honey, and dried orchard fruit, complemented by a subtle lift of bright Riesling acidity. On the palate, it is lush, complex, and full-bodied, with pronounced sweetness kept vibrant by a lively, precise acidity. The finish is long and memorable, carrying notes of ripe stone fruit, citrus peel, and honeyed depth. With proper cellaring, it can continue to evolve beautifully for many years, gaining even more nuance and complexity.

Production
This wine comes from Erbacher Marcobrunn, a highly regarded vineyard site in the Rheingau known for producing wines with finesse, ripeness, and mineral structure. The Trockenbeerenauslese classification means only individually selected, overripe grapes were harvested, typically by hand, after extended hang time on the vine and the influence of noble rot. The result is an intensely concentrated wine made in very small quantities with exceptional natural sweetness and acidity.

Food & Serving
Best served lightly chilled at around 8–10°C, this wine is ideal with fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, blue cheese, foie gras, or simply enjoyed on its own as a медitative after-dinner wine. Decanting is generally not necessary, but a brief pause in the glass can help the aromas open fully.

Producer
Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern is an established Rheingau producer with a long-standing reputation for crafting expressive Riesling wines from prestigious vineyard sites. The estate is recognized for its commitment to quality and its connection to the region’s rich wine heritage, particularly in producing refined wines that highlight the character of the Rheingau’s best terroirs.
