Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Monvigliero 2022 comes from one of Verduno’s most celebrated sites, long regarded as a true “grand cru” of the Barolo zone. Made from Nebbiolo grown in an old, south-facing vineyard, it combines striking aromatic complexity with the refined, structured character that defines great Barolo.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo typically shows a bright garnet hue with the pale rim expected of classic Nebbiolo. The nose is layered and nuanced, with notes that lean toward red cherry, rose petal, dried herbs, and subtle spice, all carried by a sense of finesse and depth. On the palate, Monvigliero is known for its austere yet elegant profile: precise tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish. The wine’s structure suggests excellent aging potential, and while it can be approached young with decanting, it is likely to gain even greater complexity with time in bottle.

Production
The Monvigliero vineyard is located in Verduno at around 320 meters above sea level, with a south-facing exposure that helps ripen Nebbiolo fully while preserving freshness. The vines are over 35 years old, rooted in a site historically prized for producing wines of perfume, depth, and refinement. This combination of old vines and a distinguished terroir gives the wine its distinctive balance of power and elegance.

Barolo Monvigliero is a natural match for rich, flavorful dishes such as braised beef, game, truffle risotto, mushroom pasta, and aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if opening in its youth.
