Description
Franz Gojer’s Glögglhof Weißburgunder Karneid is a finely tuned Pinot Blanc from the slopes above the valley in South Tyrol, where altitude, exposure, and cool alpine air help shape its distinctive freshness and precision. Elegant yet characterful, it combines mineral drive, creamy texture, and subtle oak influence in a style that reflects both the region’s identity and the careful hand of the producer.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this white shows a clear, bright profile that hints at its freshness and finesse. The nose opens with green pear and Golden Delicious apple, followed by notes of baked apple tart, hay, dried flowers, and a discreet touch of vanilla from gentle oak ageing.
The palate is elegant and lively, with recurring flavors of sweet-sour baked apple and pear. A smooth, almost silky mouthfeel is balanced by the mineral backbone of the porphyry-derived soils, leading to a clean, fresh, and vibrant finish. While already expressive in youth, it should also gain nuance over a few years in bottle.
Production
The vines grow on west-facing slopes at nearly 600 meters above sea level, where the cooler alpine site supports slow, balanced ripening of this classic South Tyrolean grape. The soils are based on porphyry weathering rock, lending the wine its marked minerality and taut structure. Fermentation and maturation include the careful use of wooden barrels, adding subtle texture and a faint vanilla nuance without masking the wine’s purity.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Blanc works beautifully with refined dishes such as roast chicken, veal, mushroom risotto, baked fish, or asparagus-based plates. It is best served well chilled, around 10–12°C, and does not require decanting, though a few minutes in the glass can help раскры the aromatic detail.
Producer
Franz Gojer is a respected South Tyrolean producer known for crafting wines that speak clearly of their mountain origin. At the family estate Glögglhof, he focuses on wines with precision, site expression, and authenticity, contributing to the strong reputation of Trentino-Südtirol as one of Italy’s most distinctive white-wine regions. His work is especially admired for balancing traditional character with a refined, elegant style.
