Description
Fortemasso Barolo Castelletto Riserva 2016 is a powerful, vineyard-driven expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most respected sites in Piemonte. Sourced from the highest part of the hillside, it offers the structure, depth and elegance that make Barolo one of Italy’s most celebrated age-worthy wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riserva typically shows a deep garnet core with the classic brick-red edges that Nebbiolo develops with time. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of dark cherry, dried rose, licorice, tobacco, leather and subtle earthy spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and firmly structured, with pronounced tannins, bright acidity and a long, savory finish. The slow-ripening Nebbiolo grapes lend both concentration and finesse, and this wine has excellent aging potential, developing added complexity over many years in bottle.
Production
Barolo Castelletto Riserva comes from the highest vineyard parcels on the hillside, where the combination of altitude, exposure and well-drained soils helps Nebbiolo ripen slowly and evenly. This late-ripening grape benefits from the cooler conditions, producing a wine with impressive structure, freshness and depth. The Riserva designation suggests extended maturation before release, allowing the wine’s tannins and aromatics to integrate.
Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for rich, flavorful dishes such as braised beef, osso buco, truffle risotto, game, porcini mushroom pasta and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for at least 1-2 hours, especially if drinking young, to allow the aromatics and tannins to खुलly unfurl.
Producer
Fortemasso is a Piedmont producer closely associated with Barolo’s traditional terroir and the expression of site-specific Nebbiolo. With a focus on quality and vineyard identity, the estate is recognized for crafting wines that reflect the character of their origins and the aging potential that has made Barolo a benchmark wine region worldwide.
