Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red colour with violet reflections, still vivid and alluring. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe cherry and plum at the core, followed by notes of spice and tobacco that add complexity and classic Tuscan character. On the palate, it is smooth, elegant, and beautifully balanced, with well-integrated tannins and a long, graceful finish. The 1990 vintage in this large-format bottle has excellent ageing potential and will continue to evolve with additional time in proper cellar conditions, gaining further nuance and softness.

Production
The wine comes from Fontodi’s hillside vineyards in the heart of Chianti Classico, where the warm Tuscan climate and well-drained soils provide ideal conditions for Sangiovese. The grapes are carefully grown on the estate’s slopes, allowing for concentration, freshness, and strong varietal expression. After harvest, the wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels and then rested for a further 12 months in bottle before release.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for game dishes, roasted or grilled beef, and mature cheeses. For the best experience, serve at 16–18°C and decant in advance, especially given its age and large-format bottling, to allow the aromas to open fully and the structure to show at its best.
