Fontodi’s Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is a single-vineyard Sangiovese from one of the estate’s most privileged south-west facing slopes. Made from old vines and now shown as a pure expression of Sangiovese, it combines power, finesse, and the depth that has made this site one of Tuscany’s most admired cru.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated ruby color. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with cherries and blackberries, then unfolding into subtle toasted oak, spice, and a refined earthy complexity. The palate is elegant yet substantial, beginning with bright red cherry and raspberry notes before moving into darker berry tones and a long, structured finish. There is impressive depth and balance here, with the kind of tension and persistence that suggests excellent aging potential over many years.

Production
Vigna del Sorbo comes from a single slope in Chianti Classico with ideal south-west exposure, allowing the grapes to ripen fully and develop strong concentration. The vines are around 40 years old, and the wine is made with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. It is then aged for 24 months in oak barrels, with 50% new wood, adding structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled or roasted beef, bistecca alla fiorentina, game, and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for at least an hour is recommended to help the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.
