Description
Fontanafredda Barolo Serralunga d'Alba is a characterful organic Barolo from one of Piedmont’s most iconic communes, made entirely from Nebbiolo grown in the heart of Langhe. It combines Serralunga’s famous structure and longevity with Fontanafredda’s commitment to sustainable viticulture, resulting in a wine that is both classic and distinctly expressive.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby-red color with clear garnet reflections, already hinting at its Barolo pedigree. The nose opens with an intense, elegant profile where small red berries lead the way, supported by spicy, complex nuances and a subtle touch of mint.
On the palate, the wine is silky yet firmly framed, with a tight, enveloping texture and lively energy. The youthful tannins are vibrant and assertive, giving the wine clear structure and excellent aging potential. This is a Barolo that should evolve beautifully over time, gaining depth, nuance, and harmony with bottle age.
Production
Serralunga d'Alba is one of the most prestigious sites in the Barolo zone, known for its clay- and limestone-rich soils that naturally produce wines with concentration, power, and pronounced tannic structure. The Nebbiolo grapes are farmed organically with close attention to the environment, and the wine is crafted to preserve freshness, varietal purity, and the distinct personality of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This Barolo is a superb match for rich Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef, truffle pasta, veal ragù, and game. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours, especially in its youth, to help the wine खुलen and show its full aromatic range.
Producer
Fontanafredda is one of Barolo’s most historic and respected producers, founded in the 19th century and deeply tied to the evolution of the region. Based in Serralunga d'Alba, the estate has played an important role in shaping the identity of modern Barolo and is widely recognized for its quality, scale, and leadership in sustainable and organic winemaking.
