Description
Flo Busch Pointe du Jour 2021 is a characterful Languedoc red that brings together Carignan, Grenache Noir and Syrah in a harmonious, Mediterranean blend. Crafted in the south of France, it’s a wine that’s all about vivid fruit, gentle spice and an inviting, food‑friendly structure. Pointe du Jour captures the easy charm and authenticity of Languedoc, offering polished drinking pleasure without losing its sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pointe du Jour 2021 shows a deep ruby color with vibrant purple highlights at the rim, hinting at its youthful energy. The nose is expressive and generous, with aromas of dark cherries, wild berries and plum layered with notes of garrigue herbs, black pepper and a touch of dried flowers.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full‑bodied, with juicy red and black fruit at the core—think blackberry, raspberry and cherry—wrapped in fine, supple tannins. Carignan brings structure and a subtle rustic edge, Grenache lends opulence and sweet spice, while Syrah adds depth, darker fruit tones and a gentle savory note. The finish is fresh and persistent, with a lift of acidity that keeps everything in balance. Enjoyable now for its vibrancy and fruit, it has the potential to evolve gracefully over the next 3–5 years, gaining a bit more complexity and softness.
Production
Domaine Flo Busch sources Pointe du Jour from vineyards in the Languedoc, where a warm Mediterranean climate and cooling breezes from the nearby hills help grapes ripen fully while retaining freshness. Typical of the region, the vines grow on a mix of stony and clay‑limestone soils that encourage low yields and concentrated fruit. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, then gently vinified in the cellar: the varieties are fermented to capture fruit purity and regional character, with careful extraction to keep tannins fine and approachable. Aging takes place in a combination of inert vessels and, where appropriate, neutral wood, preserving both fragrance and the natural energy of the blend.
Food & Serving
Pointe du Jour 2021 is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled lamb chops, roasted pork, charcuterie, duck confit, or Mediterranean dishes like herb‑roasted vegetables, ratatouille and hearty pizzas. It also works well with aged cheeses and mushroom‑based dishes. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for best expression of fruit and spice. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes helps the wine open up aromatically, especially in its youth, but it can also be enjoyed straight from the bottle with a bit of time in the glass.
