“Heureux qui comme…” – happy is the one who has this bottle in their glass. This characterful red blend from Carignan and Grenache Noir is crafted by Domaine Flo Busch in the Languedoc, where German-born winemaker Flo Busch and his wife Paola are writing their own chapter in the South of France. Following the biodynamic philosophy pioneered by his father, the Mosel legend Clemens Busch, Flo channels Mediterranean sunshine and forest-cooled freshness into a vibrant, quietly soulful 2021 vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Languedoc red shows a deep ruby to garnet hue with a subtle violet rim, hinting at both ripeness and freshness. On first pour, it can appear a touch wild and animal, with a feral edge that quickly relaxes as the wine opens up. With a little air, the nose turns toward dark, brooding fruit: wild forest berries, black cherries and mulberries, layered with notes of tree bark, undergrowth and a gentle spice. On the palate, the Carignan provides linear freshness, fine-grained tannins and a cool, sappy core, while the Grenache brings its typical fleshy, juicy texture and a sense of generosity through the mid-palate. The finish is savoury and slightly earthy, with a lingering echo of dark berries and woodland herbs. Enjoy it now for its energy and vibrancy, or cellar for 4–6 years to gain more harmony and complexity.

Production
The fruit for Heureux qui comme… 2021 comes from a particularly cool, shaded site in the Languedoc, where Carignan vines grow in the midst of a forest near a small stream – an unusually fresh microclimate for this sunny region. This setting tempers the Mediterranean heat, preserving acidity and aromatic lift in the grapes. Farmed according to biodynamic principles, the vineyards are worked gently, with close attention to soil health and biodiversity. The Carignan forms the backbone of the blend, and in 2021 it is complemented for the first time by Grenache Noir, adding depth and flesh. Grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted and fermented with indigenous yeasts, allowing a spontaneous, low-intervention vinification that captures the purity of fruit and a strong sense of place. Aging takes place in neutral vessels to keep oak influence in the background and let the vineyard character shine.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile, food-friendly Languedoc red that shines alongside rustic, flavourful dishes. Think grilled lamb chops with herbs de Provence, duck breast with berry jus, slow-cooked pork shoulder, or a hearty cassoulet. It also works beautifully with charcuterie, aged hard cheeses, mushroom dishes and roasted root vegetables. Serve at 15–16°C, slightly cooler than room temperature, to highlight its freshness and foresty nuances. A short decant of 30–45 minutes helps the initial wild, animal notes blow off and allows the dark fruit and Grenache-driven fleshiness to fully emerge.

Building on the family heritage of meticulous, biodynamically farmed vineyards, Flo brings that same sensitivity to the sun-drenched but often underrated terroirs of southern France. The estate focuses on thoughtfully farmed parcels and low-intervention cellar work to craft wines that are expressive, energetic and terroir-driven. Though still a young domaine, it is already attracting attention among sommeliers and wine enthusiasts for its distinctive, elegant take on Mediterranean reds and its commitment to biodynamic farming in the region.
