Description
Château Figeac is one of Saint-Émilion’s most celebrated names, known for a distinctive Bordeaux blend built around Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon as much as Merlot. The 2015 vintage comes from a classified Premier Grand Cru Classé estate with a long reputation for elegance, structure, and longevity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is typically deep ruby in colour, with a polished, refined sheen. Aromatically, it shows layers of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, violets, and subtle spice, with the Cabernet-led blend bringing a cooler, more perfumed profile than many Right Bank wines.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, precise, and harmonious, combining ripe dark fruit with fresh acidity, fine tannins, and a savoury mineral edge. The finish is long and composed, with excellent aging potential; the 2015 vintage in particular should continue to develop beautifully over many years, gaining complexity and tertiary notes of tobacco, leather, and dried herbs.
Production
Figeac’s vineyards sit on one of Saint-Émilion’s most prized terroirs, where gravel, sand, and clay soils provide excellent drainage and help express the estate’s unusual Cabernet-driven identity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand and vinified with careful parcel selection to preserve freshness, finesse, and varietal character, followed by aging in oak barrels to build texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine is a natural match for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, and mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young; if opening now, a longer decant will help the wine show its full aromatic depth and balance.
Producer
Château Figeac is one of the historic estates of Saint-Émilion and a benchmark for the appellation, admired for its distinctive style and consistent quality. With roots dating back centuries, the property has earned a reputation for producing some of Bordeaux’s most elegant and ageworthy wines, culminating in its elevation to Premier Grand Cru Classé status and continued acclaim among collectors and critics.
