Description

Château Figeac is one of Saint-Émilion’s most distinctive estates, known for its unusually Cabernet-driven blend and elegant, age-worthy style. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé, the 2012 vintage reflects both the pedigree of the château and the finesse that has made Figeac a benchmark on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep garnet color with youthful purple reflections at the rim. The nose is refined and layered, offering blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, graphite, violet, and subtle hints of tobacco and spice. On the palate, it is structured yet poised, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc bringing freshness, aromatic lift, and fine tannins, while Merlot adds mid-palate richness and texture. The finish is long and mineral, with excellent balance between fruit, oak, and acidity. 2012 is a vintage that can already be enjoyed with some air, but the wine also has the concentration and structure to continue developing beautifully over time, gaining more complexity with cellaring.

Production
Figeac’s vineyards lie on the western edge of Saint-Émilion, where gravelly soils are unusual for the appellation and contribute to the estate’s classic Cabernet character and elegant freshness. The grapes are typically harvested by hand in multiple passes to preserve precision and ripeness, then vinified with careful parcel selection to maintain the identity of each block. Aging is generally carried out in French oak barrels to build structure, harmony, and complexity without overpowering the wine’s natural finesse.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, and truffle-based dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.

Producer
Château Figeac is one of the historic names of Saint-Émilion, with origins dating back centuries and a reputation for producing wines of exceptional elegance and longevity. Its estate is widely respected for its gravel terroir and its Cabernet-led blending approach, which sets it apart from many of its neighbors. Over time, Figeac has earned a place among the most admired producers on Bordeaux’s Right Bank and continues to be recognized for consistency, refinement, and remarkable aging potential.
