Description
Ferrière Margaux 2011 is a classic Left Bank Bordeaux from one of Margaux’s most respected names, offering the elegance and finesse the appellation is known for. With its refined structure and cellar-worthy balance, this vintage reflects both the charm of Margaux and the serious pedigree of the estate.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby colour with subtle garnet tones beginning to emerge with age. The nose is layered and poised, with notes of dark berries, cassis, cedar, graphite, violets, and a touch of earthy spice.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and structured, combining ripe black fruit with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a savoury, mineral-tinged finish. The 2011 vintage is expected to be approachable now, but it should also continue to develop gracefully over the coming years, gaining more complexity and nuance.
Production
Produced in Margaux on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Ferrière benefits from classic gravel-rich terroir that promotes excellent drainage and helps Cabernet Sauvignon achieve precision and aromatic lift. Grapes are typically harvested with careful selection, and vinification follows traditional Bordeaux methods designed to preserve purity of fruit, structure, and elegance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, beef fillet, game birds, and mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open and soften.
Producer
Château Ferrière is a historic Margaux estate with deep roots in Bordeaux, long admired for producing wines of finesse, fragrance, and classical Left Bank character. As a 3rd Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it holds an important place in the region and has earned recognition for its commitment to quality and its refined expression of Margaux terroir.
