Fattoria Le Pupille, Toscana Petit Manseng Piemme 2021 White

Fattoria Le Pupille’s Toscana Petit Manseng Piemme 2021 is a distinctive white from Maremma, showcasing the variety’s naturally expressive, aromatic character in a refined Tuscan style. Produced by one of southern Tuscany’s pioneering estates, it combines ripe fruit, floral lift and creamy texture with the depth gained from extended maturation in tonneaux and bottle.

Tasting Notes
Golden yellow in the glass, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of flowers, yellow rose, peach and passion fruit, followed by lemon zest and subtle hints of aromatic spice and vanilla. On the palate, it is rich and creamy yet refreshingly vibrant, with generous fruit, well-integrated oak and a smooth, almond-like finish. The wine’s freshness and structure allow it to develop further in bottle, with the fruit and floral notes likely to evolve into more complex honeyed, spicy and nutty nuances over the next several years. It is already approachable but will reward careful cellaring.

Production
Made from Petit Manseng grown in the Maremma area of southern Tuscany, this wine reflects the region’s warm Mediterranean conditions while retaining the variety’s characteristic aromatic freshness. Following alcoholic fermentation in tonneaux, the wine matures for 16 months in the same vessels, allowing it to gain texture and complexity without losing its vibrant profile. It then rests for a further 12 months in bottle before release.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C, allowing the wine a little time in the glass to reveal its full aromatic range. It pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, creamy pasta, poultry and mildly spiced Asian dishes; its richness also makes it a natural match for mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but a short period of aeration in a carafe can be beneficial when serving the wine young.

Fattoria Le Pupille takes its name from the two farmhouses situated on the summits of two hills overlooking the medieval village of Pereta—like the “pupils” or eyes watching over the town. Founded in Maremma and developed under the direction of Elisabetta Geppetti, the estate has become a leading and innovative name in the region, with approximately 75 hectares of vineyards spread across the area’s diverse landscapes. Although Sangiovese and the estate’s celebrated Morellino wines remain central to its identity, the 1987 debut of Saffredi established Fattoria Le Pupille as a producer of exceptional Tuscan wines with international significance.
