In the glass, Poggio Valente 2022 shows a vibrant, medium-deep ruby hue with garnet reflections at the rim. The nose is immediately captivating, opening with sour cherry and wild red berries, followed by blue and purple flowers, heirloom rose, and hints of rye bread crust and crushed stone. Subtle Mediterranean herbs—rosemary and lavender in particular—add an evocative savory lift. On the palate, the wine is both graceful and energetic, with a core of bright, sour cherry and red plum framed by refined, chalky tannins. Notes of dried herbs, a touch of spice, and a saline, mineral edge underline its coastal Tuscan origins. The finish is long, luminous, and lifted, with mouthwatering acidity that keeps the wine fresh and poised. Production
Poggio Valente is sourced from a high-quality Sangiovese vineyard in southern Tuscany, where sun-drenched slopes, well-drained soils, and a gentle maritime influence combine to give naturally concentrated yet elegant fruit. The grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to maintain both aromatic purity and vibrant acidity. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vessels to capture the full spectrum of fruit and floral nuances, followed by aging predominantly in larger oak casks (rather than small barriques). This approach softens the tannins while preserving freshness and terroir expression, allowing the wine’s floral, mineral, and Mediterranean herb notes to take center stage.

Food & Serving
This wine is a superb match for classic Tuscan-inspired dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, grilled lamb chops with rosemary, or slow-braised beef and pork ragù over pappardelle. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, roasted vegetables, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses like Pecorino Toscano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) for optimal expression. Young bottles will benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to allow the aromatics to unfurl and the tannins to soften, while more mature bottles can simply be opened and enjoyed with a short aeration in the glass.
