Failla Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020 is a beautifully poised California Pinot Noir that shows just how expressive a cool-climate estate site can be. Grown in the hills just a short distance from the Pacific, it combines freshness, precision, and depth, with winemaker Ehren Jordan bringing confident, polished craftsmanship to the glass.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vivid ruby-red color. The nose is layered and inviting, with aromas of raspberry, dark cherry, dried blood orange, black tea, bay leaf, and a subtle leather note. The palate is fresh and pure, with a satisfying crunch to the red fruit and a velvety texture that gives the wine real shape and finesse. It already drinks beautifully now, but it has the structure and balance to age gracefully for years, gaining added complexity over time.

Production
Failla’s estate vineyard is located in a notably cool, elevated site just about 6 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, giving Pinot Noir ideal ripening conditions. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically with no irrigation, encouraging the vines to root deeply and express the character of the site. After pressing and fermentation, the wine matures for 11 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new.

This Pinot Noir is a natural match for roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, poultry, and earthy dishes with herbs or truffle. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15-17°C, and consider decanting for 20-30 minutes if drinking young to let the aromas open up.
