Evangile Pomerol, 2009

Château L’Évangile 2009 is a distinguished Pomerol red from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated vintages. Combining the richness and depth associated with Pomerol with the estate’s hallmark elegance, it offers a compelling expression of mature Right Bank Bordeaux and is particularly appealing to collectors of finely aged wines.

Tasting Notes
The wine presents a deep ruby colour with garnet hues at the rim, reflecting its maturity. Its aromatic profile is layered and expressive, revealing ripe black plum, blackberry and cassis alongside cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, dark chocolate and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and beautifully textured, with generous fruit, polished tannins and well-integrated oak. Notes of black cherry, plum and spice develop into a long, savoury finish marked by minerality and gentle tertiary complexity. The 2009 vintage is drinking very well now, although well-stored bottles can continue to evolve gracefully over the next several years.

Production
L’Évangile is situated on the prestigious Pomerol plateau, where gravelly soils over clay contribute both drainage and a deep water reserve for the vines. The blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc, although exact proportions may vary by vintage. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand before fermentation and maturation in oak, allowing the wine to develop its characteristic combination of plush fruit, structure and refinement.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for around one hour to separate any mature sediment and allow the wine’s aromas to open, taking care not to over-aerate an already mature bottle. Its rich yet structured profile pairs particularly well with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, game birds, truffled dishes and mature hard cheeses.
