Château l'Évangile 2001 is a refined Pomerol from one of Bordeaux’s most admired right-bank appellations, offering the plush texture and layered complexity that have made the region so sought after. Crafted mainly from Merlot with Cabernet Franc adding lift and structure, it combines immediate charm with the depth expected of a serious Bordeaux wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this vintage typically shows a deep garnet colour with gentle brick-like evolution at the rim, reflecting its age. The nose is likely to reveal mature notes of black cherry, plum, cedar, tobacco, truffle, and a subtle earthy warmth, all unfolding with time in the glass. On the palate, it should feel supple and polished, with ripe dark fruit now softened by tertiary notes of leather, graphite, forest floor, and spice. The tannins are expected to be resolved, leaving a smooth, elegant finish. While already in its drinking window, well-stored bottles may continue to show beautifully for several more years.

Produced in Pomerol on Bordeaux’s gravelly and clay-rich right bank, the wine benefits from terroir that naturally favours Merlot, bringing richness and finesse. The grapes are typically harvested by hand and vinified with a focus on preserving fruit purity, balance, and the silky texture that defines the estate’s style.

This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, beef fillet, mushroom dishes, and slow-cooked game. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening now, especially if the bottle has been cellared for a long time.
