Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Espectacle del Montsant shows a deep, vibrant ruby core with a slight garnet rim, signaling both richness and elegance. The nose is intensely floral, with notes of violets, rose petals and Mediterranean herbs wrapped around pure red and black fruit—think ripe cherry, wild strawberry, plum and blackberry—layered with hints of sweet spice, licorice and subtle mineral undertones. On the palate, this is full-bodied and structured yet remarkably poised. The fruit profile is more primary and vivid in this vintage, with juicy red and dark berries supported by 15% alcohol that feels integrated rather than heavy. Fine-grained, abundant tannins provide a firm but polished frame, suggesting the wine will reward patience in the cellar. A line of fresh acidity keeps everything in balance and extends the long, resonant finish with echoes of flowers, spice and stony minerality. Production
Espectacle del Montsant is crafted from very old, low-yielding Garnacha vines rooted in the steep, terraced slopes of La Figuera in DO Montsant, overlooking Priorat. The vineyard forms a natural amphitheatre, capturing sunlight while benefiting from cooling breezes and a mix of limestone and clay-rich soils that contribute both power and tension to the wine. Grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes, with strict selection to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches make it to the cellar—particularly important in 2020, when mildew reduced yields but intensified concentration. Vinification is traditionally minded yet precise: gentle destemming, a long maceration to extract aromatic complexity and fine tannins, followed by aging in large oak foudres that respect the purity of Garnacha. The wine was bottled in May 2022 in limited quantities of around 6,500 bottles, with an even smaller share in magnum.

Food & Serving
This is a serious gastronomic wine that shines alongside richly flavored dishes. Think slow-braised lamb shanks with rosemary, roasted suckling pig, aged manchego or other hard sheep’s cheeses, herb-crusted beef, or deeply flavored vegetable dishes such as roasted aubergine, wild mushroom ragù and Mediterranean stews with tomatoes and olives. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its freshness and floral side rather than the alcohol. Given its youth and firm, fine tannins, decanting 1–2 hours in advance is recommended, especially for enjoyment in the next few years; in magnum, a slightly longer decant can help the wine fully unfurl.
