El Enemigo Bonarda 2020 showcases one of Argentina’s most cherished native-feeling varieties in a refined Mendoza style. Made by the Catena family’s acclaimed El Enemigo project, it combines generous dark fruit with savoury spice and the structure to develop gracefully in bottle.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in appearance, this Bonarda opens with aromas of ripe blackberries and dark cherries, followed by white pepper and subtle spice. The palate is full-flavoured yet balanced, with juicy dark fruit, fresh acidity and gently structured tannins. Twelve months of maturation in large foudres adds depth and integration without overpowering the fruit. Enjoy now for its vibrant character, or cellar for several more years as the fruit and savoury notes evolve.

Production
The grapes come from Mendoza, Argentina’s historic and most important wine region, situated east of the Andes around the provincial capital. Grown in sandy soils, the vines produce a wine marked by ripe, dark fruit and a distinctive peppery character. The Bonarda is matured for 12 months in large wooden foudres, allowing the wine to gain complexity while preserving its freshness and varietal expression. Specific harvesting and vinification details are not provided.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Its ripe fruit, peppery spice and supple structure make it an excellent partner for grilled beef, roast lamb, barbecued meats, empanadas and richly flavoured pasta dishes. Decanting is not essential, but 30–45 minutes of aeration can help reveal the wine’s aromatic depth, particularly when served young.
