Description

El Enemigo As Bravas Pampa El Cepillo Malbec 2017 is a striking high-altitude Malbec from one of Mendoza’s coolest and most coveted sites, combining mountain freshness with impressive depth and precision. Crafted by the Catena family’s celebrated El Enemigo project, it continues the legacy of redefining what premium Argentine wine can be, with the 2017 vintage earning an outstanding 96 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, vibrant red-purple core with a refined, almost tense energy that hints at its cool-climate origin. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark berries, plum, violets, spice, and a distinct stony, mineral edge that gives the wine a lifted, mountain-like character. On the palate, this is a Malbec of remarkable finesse rather than weight, offering concentrated black fruit, floral tones, fine-grained tannins, and lively acidity wrapped in a sleek, mineral structure. The finish is long, precise, and beautifully defined, with enough depth to drink well now and enough structure to age gracefully for years.

Production
The grapes come from a tiny 1.7-hectare parcel in El Cepillo, located in the southern Uco Valley at around 1,300 meters above sea level. This cool, high-altitude site features glacially formed, limestone-rich soils with plenty of stones, creating a tense, savory style with a pronounced mineral character and fresh natural acidity. The wine is made with whole clusters of Malbec and a small proportion of Sémillon, then aged for 60 months in large 2,000-liter foudres, allowing complexity and texture to develop without overt oak influence.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled beef, slow-braised lamb, mushroom dishes, and richly seasoned game, as well as hard cheeses with a nutty profile. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open fully and show its aromatic complexity.

Producer
El Enemigo is the acclaimed project of Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena, part of Argentina’s renowned Catena wine family and one of the most influential names in modern Mendoza winemaking. Known for pushing the region toward a more refined, terroir-driven style, the estate has earned international praise for wines that combine precision, elegance, and sense of place, with As Bravas standing among its most iconic and highly rated releases.
