Description

Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Brut Rosé is a serious, vinous Champagne that goes far beyond a delicate aperitif style. Built with Grand Cru fruit and an unusually high share of reserve wines, it delivers depth, texture, and remarkable gastronomic character.

Tasting Notes
Pale yet expressive in colour, it shows a refined salmon-pink hue with a lively mousse. The nose is layered and complex, with red berries, citrus peel, dried flowers, and subtle savory notes, followed by a more vinous edge that reflects its Pinot Noir core and reserve-wine component. On the palate, it is broad, concentrated, and beautifully dry, with impressive structure and tension. The low dosage keeps the finish precise, while the combination of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay gives both power and lift. This is a rosé with real aging potential, developing more complexity and depth over time.

Production
Made from 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, this Champagne is assembled from about 60% 2006 vintage wine, with the remainder drawn from reserve wines, including 10% Coteaux Champenois Rouge from 2005. The wine is produced without filtration or fining, preserving texture and purity, and bottled with a very low dosage of 2 grams per litre. The Grand Cru sourcing and reserve-wine approach give it exceptional richness and consistency.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent Champagne for the table, especially with dishes that can match its weight and structure. It pairs well with roast poultry, duck, charcuterie, salmon, tuna, mushroom dishes, and even lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and while decanting is not necessary, a few minutes in the glass will help open up its aromas.

Producer
Champagne Egly-Ouriet is one of the most respected grower-producers in Champagne, known for wines of depth, precision, and a distinctly terroir-driven style. Based in Ambonnay, the house has earned a strong reputation for its low-intervention philosophy, long ageing, and outstanding Grand Cru expressions. Its wines are widely admired among Champagne enthusiasts for combining power with finesse and exceptional aging capacity.

Egly-Ouriet stands for characterful champagnes with a powerful structure. The Grand Cru Brut Rosé shows aromas of red berries, brioche, and fine spices. On the palate, dense, creamy yet also taut, with ripe fruit and a long finish. A rosé with depth and a perfect sparkling wine companion to rich dishes. Once an insider tip, now often sold out!

Grower Champagne... what more can I say. When I first tried this bottle, I was so impressed, and it was definitely my favorite wine of that tasting. This is still a bottle that I think about from time to time.
