Tasting Notes
This wine typically shows a luminous golden hue with impressive intensity in the glass. The nose is layered and expressive, with notes of ripe stone fruit, white flowers, honey, citrus peel, and subtle mineral and smoky nuances from the varied hillside soils. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated yet finely balanced, with generous fruit, a broad, creamy texture, and a long, saline finish. Marsanne provides structure and depth, while Roussanne adds lift and aromatic detail. With its concentration and balance, 2013 Ex-Voto Blanc should have excellent aging potential and will continue to evolve gracefully over many years.

Production
The grapes come from selected parcels in Hermitage with highly diverse soils, including clay, sand, and volcanic rock, giving the wine both power and complexity. Guigal is known for low yields and careful vineyard work, with a strong respect for the land and an approach that emphasizes purity and precision in the cellar. Vinification is handled with minimal intervention to preserve terroir expression and the natural richness of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for shellfish, lobster, scallops, richer fish dishes, white meats, and poultry, especially when served with buttery or creamy sauces. It also works beautifully with flavorful Mediterranean cuisine and dishes with more intensity. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to allow the aromatic complexity to open up.

E. Guigal was founded in Ampuis in 1946 by Étienne Guigal, building on his experience in the cellars of Vidal Fleury. Today the estate is led by the family’s third generation and is widely regarded as one of the great names of the Northern Rhône, with iconic vineyards such as La Landonne, La Mouline, La Turque, and Hermitage’s Ex-Voto among its most celebrated wines. Guigal is especially admired for combining traditional craftsmanship with exceptional precision and consistency.
