Description
E. Guigal’s Ermitage Ex-Voto Blanc is a prestigious Northern Rhône white wine, crafted to express the depth and distinctive character of the Hermitage terroir. Produced in very limited quantities and matured entirely in new French oak, it combines richness, power and remarkable cellaring potential. The wine forms part of Guigal’s collection of top cuvées, reflecting the family’s long-standing ambition to produce benchmark Rhône wines.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a luminous golden colour. Its expressive nose is full and powerful, with pronounced aromas of white flowers, honey and ripe orchard fruit, alongside a creamy, subtly toasty character from its oak maturation. On the palate, it is intense and concentrated, with a generous texture balanced by freshness and a persistent, mineral finish that allows the terroir to shine through.
This is a structured white wine with considerable ageing potential. It can be enjoyed in its youth for its richness and aromatic intensity, but will develop greater complexity and depth over many years in bottle, with careful cellaring.
Production
Made from white grapes grown in the Hermitage appellation of the Northern Rhône, the wine is crafted to showcase the character of its distinguished terroir. It is vinified entirely in new French oak barrels, including full malolactic fermentation, before spending 30 months ageing in new French oak. This patient process gives the wine its creamy texture, depth and integrated oak complexity while preserving its powerful sense of place.
Food & Serving
Its concentration and intensity make it an excellent match for shellfish and richly prepared seafood, grilled or roasted fish, white meat and poultry. It also works beautifully with dishes featuring butter, cream, mushrooms or other pronounced flavours. Serve lightly chilled at around 12–14°C. A brief decant of 30–60 minutes can help the wine open, particularly when served young; older bottles should be decanted carefully and only if necessary to remove sediment.
Producer
Founded by Étienne Guigal in 1946 in the heart of Côte-Rôtie, E. Guigal has grown into one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected wine houses. Now led by the third generation of the Guigal family, the estate combines traditional winemaking with continual investment and innovation. Since 2003, the family has also produced its own barrels at Château d’Ampuis, while the acquisition of Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 2017 strengthened the house’s presence in the Southern Rhône. Guigal is recognised internationally for its terroir-driven wines and its pursuit of exceptional quality across the Rhône Valley.
