Dugat-Py Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2009

Dugat-Py’s Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 is a powerful and finely crafted expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most respected Grand Cru sites. Made from old vines and shaped by a warm, generous vintage, it combines depth, concentration, and the firm mineral backbone that makes Mazis-Chambertin so distinctive.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a deep, darkly coloured Pinot Noir with impressive density and a sense of maturity. The nose opens with layers of ripe black cherry, truffle, liquorice, smoke, and earthy spice, all carried by a beautifully integrated oak frame. On the palate, the wine is rich and majestic, with a concentrated dark-fruit core, silky tannins, and a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything lifted and precise. The finish is long, mineral, and resonant, showing both the generosity of the 2009 vintage and the structure to continue ageing gracefully for many more years.

Production
The wine comes from old vines rooted in the stony limestone and clay soils of the upper part of Mazis, a terroir known for producing some of the most structured and muscular wines in Gevrey-Chambertin. Dugat-Py works with extremely low yields, hand-harvests the fruit, ferments it in small open vats with extended maceration, and ages the wine for around 18 months in new oak barrels.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru is an excellent match for classic Burgundy dishes such as roast duck, venison, beef fillet, squab, or braised lamb. It also works beautifully with mushroom-based dishes and truffle preparations. Serve at 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if opened young or from a bottle showing some reduction.
