Description

Dugat-Py’s Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2002 is a beautifully mature Pinot Noir from some of the estate’s oldest vines in one of Burgundy’s most iconic villages. Built on the limestone and clay soils of Gevrey-Chambertin, it combines depth, finesse, and the unmistakable stamp of a traditional, highly regarded producer.

Tasting Notes
Now at well over two decades of age, the wine shows a refined, harmonious character rather than primary fruit power. Expect a deep garnet hue with brick-like reflections, followed by aromas of dried cherry, forest floor, truffle, and a subtle touch of leather and spice. On the palate, the fruit is elegant and restrained, framed by silky tannins and fresh acidity that keep the wine lively and focused. The finish is long, mineral, and savory, with the structure still present enough to suggest further short-term cellaring, though it is drinking very well now.

Production
This wine comes from Dugat-Py’s oldest vines in Gevrey-Chambertin, rooted in classic limestone and clay terroir that naturally favors concentration and precision. The grapes are hand-harvested with careful selection, then fermented in small open vats with an extended maceration before aging for around 18 months in new oak barrels, a traditional approach that adds structure and depth while preserving site expression.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C and consider opening the bottle a little in advance, especially if serving with a delicate older vintage where nuance matters more than power. Decanting is optional but can help if the wine is showing reserved on the nose; pair it with roasted duck, game birds, mushroom dishes, braised beef, or aged hard cheeses.

Producer
Dugat-Py is a respected name in Burgundy, known for crafting intensely expressive, terroir-driven wines with a strong emphasis on old vines and traditional winemaking. The domaine has built a reputation in Gevrey-Chambertin particularly for wines of depth, structure, and longevity, and its precision has made it one of the village’s most admired producers.
