Description
Dugat-Py’s Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques 2009 is a striking expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most respected Premier Cru sites. Made from old-vine Pinot Noir on steep limestone-and-clay slopes, it combines the warmth and generosity of the vintage with the precision and mineral backbone that define the domaine’s style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a deep, mature ruby tone that reflects both its age and the richness of the 2009 vintage. The nose is layered and refined, opening with ripe cherry and dark berry fruit before unfolding into forest floor, truffle, spice, and subtle earthy notes.
On the palate, it is generous yet beautifully composed, with silky tannins, rounded texture, and enough acidity to keep the wine fresh and focused. The finish is long, savory, and distinctly mineral. While it is already drinking very well, it still has the structure to hold for further aging if cellared carefully.
Production
The Lavaux St. Jacques parcel is planted on steep slopes in Gevrey-Chambertin, where old vines grow in limestone and clay soils that naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation in small open vats. The wine is then aged for around 18 months in new oak barrels, a regimen that adds depth and frame without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs exceptionally well with roast duck, beef fillet, venison, mushroom dishes, and other rich, savory cuisine. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended to allow the aromatics to fully open, especially if the bottle has been stored for a long time.
Producer
Dugat-Py is a highly regarded family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for its uncompromising approach to viticulture and its deep respect for old vines and terroir. The estate has built a strong reputation for producing concentrated, long-lived wines with remarkable precision, and it is widely considered one of the benchmark producers in the village and across Burgundy.
