Description
Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Cœur de Roy 2011 is a beautifully composed Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected names, offering the depth and precision Gevrey-Chambertin is known for. Made from old-vine parcels, some more than 80 years old, it captures both the power of the appellation and the finesse of a more graceful vintage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet hue with gentle signs of maturity. The nose opens with ripe dark cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, forest floor, and a subtle touch of tobacco, all wrapped in finely integrated oak.
The palate is layered and focused, with rounded tannins, supple fruit, and a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything in balance. The 2011 vintage brings a more open, elegant expression than the house’s firmer years, and after a decade of aging it now offers a harmonious, nuanced profile with excellent drinking appeal. It still has enough structure to continue evolving, though it is already in a very satisfying place.
Production
Cœur de Roy is sourced from several old parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, planted on classic limestone and clay soils that lend both mineral tension and structure. Dugat-Py works with extremely low yields, harvesting carefully to preserve concentration and purity.
Fermentation takes place in small open vats, followed by around 18 months of maturation in new oak barrels. This approach gives the wine its signature depth and texture while allowing the 2011 vintage to show a more lifted, refined character than more muscular examples from the estate.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast duck, beef tenderloin, game birds, wild mushroom dishes, or braised lamb. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and rich poultry dishes.
Serve at 16–18°C. Decanting for about 30–45 minutes is recommended if opened young in style, but a mature bottle like this can often be enjoyed straight from the glass with only a light aeration.
Producer
Dugat-Py is a highly regarded Burgundy producer based in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for its powerful, deeply expressive Pinot Noir and a steadfast commitment to low yields and meticulous vineyard work. The estate has earned a strong reputation for wines that combine concentration, structure, and remarkable aging potential.
Over the years, Dugat-Py has become a benchmark for concentrated, terroir-driven Gevrey-Chambertin, with a style that consistently reflects both the strength of the vineyards and the precision of the winemaking.
