Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur de Roy 2009

Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur de Roy 2009 is a powerful, cellar-worthy Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected Gevrey-Chambertin specialists. Sourced from several old parcels, including vines over a century old, it combines the depth of a warm vintage with the firm mineral backbone that makes Gevrey-Chambertin so distinctive.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet colour with impressive concentration and maturity. The nose is layered and complex, opening with kirsch and cherry compote before unfolding into truffle, leather, earthy spice and a subtle smoky edge. The palate is broad, rich and beautifully resolved, with silky tannins and generous ripe fruit balanced by fresh acidity and a clear mineral line. After more than fifteen years, it has reached a refined stage of evolution and should continue to drink well for a few more years, though it is already offering plenty of pleasure now.

Production
Coeur de Roy is made from multiple old-vine parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, planted on classic clay and limestone soils that naturally lend the wine structure, depth and tension. Dugat-Py farms for very low yields, harvesting carefully to preserve concentration and purity. Vinification takes place in small open vats with a long maceration, followed by around 18 months of ageing in new oak barrels, giving the wine both precision and ample texture.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast duck, game birds, beef fillet, braised short ribs or mushroom-based dishes such as wild mushroom risotto. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening now, especially to allow the aromas to fully open.
