Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2002 is a beautifully composed expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated Grand Cru sites. Crafted from very old Pinot Noir vines in the upper parcels of Charmes-Chambertin, it combines depth, finesse, and the unmistakable elegance that has made this vineyard so revered.

Tasting Notes
Now more than two decades after the vintage, the wine shows a mature and harmonious profile. The color would typically be a refined, gently evolved ruby garnet, while the nose unfolds with dried cherry, forest floor, truffle, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is silky and balanced, with fully integrated tannins, still-vivid acidity, and a long, mineral finish. The fruit has softened into a more tertiary, savory expression, giving the wine impressive complexity and grace. While fully enjoyable now, it still has the structure to hold beautifully for those who appreciate mature Burgundy.

Production
This wine comes from the upper parcels of Charmes-Chambertin, where Dugat-Py works with very old vines planted in limestone and clay soils. The grapes are harvested by hand with strict selection, then fermented in small open vats before ageing for around 18 months in new oak barrels. The result is a Grand Cru that reflects both the vineyard’s classical terroir and the producer’s precision-driven style.

Food & Serving
Best served at around 16–18°C, ideally after gentle decanting to allow the aromas to open fully. It pairs beautifully with dishes such as roast duck, game bird, mushroom risotto, veal, lamb, and truffled or earthy preparations that complement its mature, savory character.
