Description
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of Saint-Julien’s most celebrated names, and the 2010 vintage captures the depth, precision, and elegance that have made this Second Growth so admired. Sourced from a superb Bordeaux year, it combines classic Left Bank structure with remarkable richness and poise.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet core with youthful purple highlights, hinting at its concentration and long life ahead. The nose is layered and refined, with blackcurrant, cassis, dark cherry, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle floral notes, all framed by polished oak and mineral freshness. On the palate, it is powerful yet exceptionally balanced, offering ripe dark fruit, firm but finely grained tannins, and a long, savory finish with classic Saint-Julien finesse.
This is a wine built for aging, and the 2010 vintage has the structure to develop beautifully over many years. With time, expect greater complexity, softer tannins, and more earthy, truffle-like nuances to emerge.
Production
Ducru-Beaucaillou’s vineyards are located on the gravelly soils of Saint-Julien, where the deep, well-drained terroir is ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape in the blend. The estate benefits from meticulous vineyard management and careful harvesting, with fruit typically picked at optimal ripeness to preserve purity and structure. Vinification is carried out with precision to emphasize concentration, elegance, and the distinctive mineral character of the site.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as beef tenderloin, ribeye steak, lamb, duck breast, or game, as well as truffle-rich and mushroom-based preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours, especially if opening young, to allow the wine to fully раскры its aromatics and texture.
Producer
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has a long-standing reputation as one of the leading estates in Saint-Julien and was classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Named for the beautiful pebbles, or "beaux cailloux," that define its gravelly terroir, the château is known for producing wines of elegance, structure, and exceptional longevity. Over the years, it has earned a place among the benchmark properties of the Left Bank.
