Description
Drappier Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut is a bright, terroir-driven Champagne that showcases the purity of Chardonnay from the Kimmeridgian limestone soils of the Côte des Bar. A touch of Pinot Blanc, known locally as Blanc Vrai, adds a little extra generosity and texture, making this a distinctly expressive Blanc de Blancs in the Drappier style.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass with a fine, lively mousse, this Champagne leans toward elegance and precision rather than richness. On the nose, it offers mineral notes, citrus peel, fresh orchard fruit, and subtle floral hints, with a delicate creamy nuance in the background.
The palate is crisp and focused, combining chalky freshness with a rounded, supple mid-palate from the Pinot Blanc. Flavours of lemon, green apple, and white stone fruit are carried by a saline, chalk-like finish. Its structure suggests very good ageing potential, although it is already highly enjoyable for those who appreciate a vibrant, mineral style of Champagne.
Production
This cuvée is built around Chardonnay grown on the jura-like Kimmeridgian limestone soils of the Côte des Bar, a terroir that gives the wine its marked minerality and tension. The addition of Blanc Vrai (Pinot Blanc) brings a touch of breadth and generosity, a signature trait in many Drappier wines. Vinification follows a careful Champagne method designed to preserve freshness, site character, and finesse.
Food & Serving
Ideal with oysters, shellfish, sushi, sashimi, or light white-fish dishes, this Champagne also works beautifully with goat’s cheese and refined poultry preparations. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not recommended; simply open and pour to preserve the wine’s delicate mousse and freshness.
Producer
Drappier is a historic Champagne house based in Urville, in the Côte des Bar, and has long been respected for its emphasis on terroir, lower-intervention winemaking, and expressive styles. The estate is particularly known for championing local grape varieties and the distinctive character of its limestone-rich vineyards. Today, Drappier is recognised as one of the most distinctive and admired producers in the region.
