Dr. Crusius Traiser Bastei Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 1994 is a rare, mature German dessert wine from one of the Nahe’s celebrated steep-slope sites. Made from intensely concentrated Riesling grapes affected by noble rot, this 0.5-litre bottle offers remarkable richness, complexity and the graceful evolution associated with a great late-harvest vintage.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden hue, reflecting its age and concentration. Its bouquet is layered with ripe yellow fruit, honey, dried fruit and delicate spice, while mature notes add further complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied and intensely sweet, balanced by Riesling’s vibrant acidity. Flavours of preserved fruit, honey and warm spice lead to a long, lingering finish. Already mature and highly enjoyable, it should continue to develop gracefully when stored in excellent conditions.

Production
Trockenbeerenauslese is among Germany’s most concentrated Prädikat wines. The grapes are harvested individually and left on the vine until they have shrivelled and developed noble rot, concentrating their sugars, aromas and acidity. The Riesling vines grow on the steep slopes of the Traiser Bastei in the Nahe, where the site’s challenging conditions help produce wines of intensity and freshness. The small yields and meticulous selection make this style exceptionally rare.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This Trockenbeerenauslese is a natural match for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, pâtisserie and blue or mature cheeses, while its acidity also makes it enjoyable on its own as a contemplative aperitif. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although carefully standing the bottle upright before serving and pouring gently can help preserve its delicate mature character.
