Dominus 2018 Magnum

Dominus 2018 Magnum is a powerful, estate-grown Napa Valley red that captures the depth and precision for which Dominus is known. Made from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, it combines intense concentration, refined structure, and a distinctly elegant finish. As with many of the estate’s most celebrated releases, it reflects both meticulous vineyard selection and the heritage of one of California’s benchmark producers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby-red color that hints at the wine’s richness and intensity. The nose opens with black cherry, cassis, tobacco, spice, and a subtle cedar note, layered with earthy complexity and a touch of vanilla from oak aging. On the palate, this is a full-bodied and tightly structured wine with velvety, well-integrated tannins and impressive concentration. The fruit is vivid and pure, balanced by earthy undertones and a long, graceful finish. While already compelling, Dominus 2018 Magnum has the concentration and structure to age beautifully for many years, developing even greater nuance over time.

Production
Fruit is hand-harvested from the best parcels of Dominus Estate, with careful handling throughout the process to preserve fruit quality and enable precise extraction. Fermentation takes place in small open-top vats, followed by approximately 18 months of maturation in French oak barrels. The 2018 growing season was marked by a later-than-average harvest, light rainfall, and a slow, even ripening period, resulting in deeply flavored, highly articulate fruit with excellent balance.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with prime beef, lamb, venison, roasted duck, and richly flavored dishes such as braised short ribs or mushroom-based cuisine. Serve at 16-18°C and consider decanting for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to fully open, especially in its youth. For a magnum format, decanting can be particularly rewarding.
