Description
Domini Veneti Valpolicella Classico Superiore Collezione Pruviniano Maran 2022 is a refined expression of Valpolicella Classica, crafted from select vineyards in the historic Marano valley. Made from the classic local grapes Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, it combines vibrant fruit with an elegant, savory backbone. This cuvée stems from Domini Veneti’s detailed terroir research project, focusing on the ancient Pruviniano area, as the Marano zone was known until 1177, to capture its unique character in the glass.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Valpolicella Classico Superiore shows a bright, medium ruby color with youthful violet reflections. The nose is inviting and layered, offering notes of red cherry, wild strawberry and plum, intertwined with hints of dried herbs, crushed violets, subtle spice and a gentle touch of almond.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and sleek, with juicy red berry fruit supported by fresh acidity and fine, well-integrated tannins. Flavors of cherry, cranberry and redcurrant are lifted by a delicate spiciness and a faint savory, mineral streak that speaks of its hillside origins. The finish is clean and persistent, with a pleasing balance between fruit and structure. Enjoyable in its youth for its vibrancy, this 2022 vintage has the concentration and balance to evolve gracefully over the next 4–6 years.
Production
The Collezione Pruviniano Maran is sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Marano valley, one of the historic crus of Valpolicella Classica, characterized by limestone-rich, well-drained soils and hillside exposures that promote slow, even ripening. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal quality and bunch selection. After gentle crushing and destemming, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve aromatic purity, followed by a period of maturation—often in a combination of stainless steel and large oak or neutral vessels—to refine the tannins and enhance complexity while maintaining the wine’s fresh, terroir-driven profile.
Food & Serving
This Valpolicella Classico Superiore pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes, from antipasti of cured meats and aged cheeses to fresh pasta with tomato-based sauces, roast poultry, grilled pork and herb-crusted lamb. It also works well with mushroom risotto, charcuterie boards and lighter game dishes. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and texture. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help open the bouquet, especially in its first few years, but it is also very enjoyable poured directly from the bottle.
