Description

Domini Veneti Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG 2019 is a classic sweet red from the heart of Valpolicella Classica in Veneto, Italy. Crafted from sun-ripened Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes, it offers a luxurious, velvety expression of one of the region’s oldest and most cherished wine styles. Recioto is the historic ancestor of Amarone, and this 2019 bottling captures that heritage in a deeply layered, contemplative dessert wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Recioto shows a deep ruby color with garnet highlights and an almost inky core, hinting at its concentration. The nose is intense and seductive, with aromas of ripe black cherry, dried plum, candied red berries and violets, layered with notes of cocoa, cinnamon, licorice, and a touch of sweet tobacco and dried figs. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, with velvety tannins and a refined sweetness held in check by fresh acidity. Flavors of black cherry compote, blackberry jam, dried cranberries and dates unfold slowly, supported by nuances of dark chocolate, espresso, baking spices and a faint balsamic note typical of great Valpolicella wines. The finish is long, warming and persistent, with lingering flavors of cherry, cocoa and spice. While already approachable and generous in its youth, this 2019 Recioto has the structure and sugar-acid balance to age gracefully for 10–15 years, developing more complex notes of dried fruit, leather and spice over time.

Production
This wine is born in the Valpolicella Classica zone, where hillside vineyards benefit from a mix of calcareous and clay-limestone soils, good drainage and a climate moderated by nearby Lake Garda and the Lessini hills. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness from selected parcels, then laid out in well-ventilated drying lofts for the traditional appassimento process, during which they slowly dehydrate, concentrating sugars, aromas and flavors over several months. After gentle pressing, fermentation is deliberately slowed or stopped before all sugars are converted, preserving the natural sweetness that defines Recioto. The wine is then matured—typically in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels—to refine its texture, integrate tannins and build aromatic complexity before bottling.

Food & Serving
Domini Veneti Recioto della Valpolicella 2019 is a versatile dessert wine that pairs beautifully with rich chocolate cakes, flourless chocolate torte, dark chocolate mousse and berry-based desserts such as cherry tart or black forest gâteau. It also works wonderfully with blue cheeses like Gorgonzola Dolce, Stilton or Roquefort, and can be a luxurious companion to aged hard cheeses and nut-based desserts. Serve slightly cool, at around 14–16°C (57–61°F), to keep the sweetness in balance and highlight the wine’s freshness. Decanting for 30–45 minutes can help open up the aromatics, especially if enjoyed in its younger years, but is not strictly necessary.

Producer
Domìni Veneti is the premium project of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar, a historic cooperative founded in 1933 in the Valpolicella Classica area of northeastern Italy. Launched in 1989, the Domìni Veneti label was created to focus on the finest crus and most privileged zones of Valpolicella, with a clear emphasis on quality, terroir expression and traditional techniques such as appassimento. The name itself refers to the territories that once belonged to the Venetian Republic in the 16th century, underlining the deep historical roots of viticulture in this region. Today, Domìni Veneti is recognized as a benchmark producer for Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto, regularly earning critical acclaim and helping to define the modern reputation of Valpolicella Classica wines on the international stage.
