Description
Domaine Yannick Amirault’s Bourgueil Côte 50 is a refined Loire Valley red from one of the region’s most respected family estates. Made from Cabernet Franc, it combines the grape’s characteristic freshness and gentle tannins with the depth and structure associated with Bourgueil’s finest hillside vineyards. The wine reflects a family tradition that has been carefully developed since Yannick Amirault took over the domaine in 1977.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a vibrant ruby-red colour. Its aroma is classically Cabernet Franc, with fresh red berries, blackcurrant, violet and subtle herbal notes, complemented by a gentle earthy character. On the palate, it is lively and focused, offering ripe berry fruit, refreshing acidity and fine-grained tannins. The finish is savoury and persistent, making the wine approachable in its youth while allowing it to develop greater complexity over the next several years.
Production
The grapes come from the Domaine’s organically farmed vineyards in Bourgueil, where the Loire Valley’s varied soils help bring both freshness and structure to Cabernet Franc. The estate has avoided fertilisers since 1983, while grass is allowed to grow between the vine rows, eliminating the need for herbicides and encouraging a healthy vineyard ecosystem. The fruit is carefully handled and traditionally vinified to preserve its varietal character, freshness and expression of place.
Food & Serving
Enjoy this Bourgueil with roast chicken, duck, pork tenderloin, grilled sausages or hearty vegetable dishes such as lentil stew and mushroom tart. It also pairs naturally with Loire Valley goat’s cheese. Serve lightly cool, at around 14–16°C. Decanting is not essential for a young bottle, but 30–60 minutes of aeration can help reveal its aromas and soften the wine’s youthful structure.
Producer
Domaine Yannick Amirault began with just 3.4 hectares of vineyards in Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil when Yannick Amirault took over the family business in 1977. The estate has since grown to 19 hectares, including 13 hectares in Bourgueil and 6 in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. Its long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture culminated in organic certification, and the domaine is now recognised for producing expressive, elegant Cabernet Francs with a clear sense of Loire Valley origin.
