Description
Domaine Yannick Amirault’s Bourgueil Côte 50 2024 is an expressive Loire Valley red made from Cabernet Franc, showcasing the freshness, savoury character and refined structure for which Bourgueil is known. The name Côte 50 refers to the age of the vines, giving the wine added depth and concentration while preserving the variety’s characteristic elegance.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with aromas of ripe red and dark berries, violet, fresh herbs and a subtle earthy, peppery nuance. On the palate, it is fresh and finely structured, combining juicy raspberry and blackberry flavours with gentle tannins, lively acidity and a distinctly mineral finish.
The 2024 vintage is appealing in its youth, with a vibrant, fruit-driven profile that makes it enjoyable now with a little air. Its balance and concentration should allow it to develop further over the next five to eight years, gaining additional savoury complexity as it matures.
Production
The grapes come from Domaine Yannick Amirault’s Bourgueil vineyards, where Cabernet Franc benefits from the Loire’s temperate climate and the region’s characteristic tuffeau and clay-rich soils. The estate has avoided fertilisers since 1983, while grass is allowed to grow between the vine rows, eliminating the need for herbicides and encouraging a healthy vineyard ecosystem. The wine is made with a careful focus on preserving purity, freshness and the natural character of the fruit; specific harvesting and vinification details are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 14–16°C, slightly cool to highlight its freshness. It pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck, pork, grilled sausages, mushroom dishes, lentils and classic Loire Valley fare such as goat’s cheese. The 2024 can be enjoyed without decanting, although 30–60 minutes in a carafe will help open its aromas and soften the young tannins.
Producer
Yannick Amirault took over his family estate in 1977, when it comprised just 3.4 hectares in Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. Today, Domaine Yannick Amirault farms 19 hectares—13 in Bourgueil and six in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil—and is organically certified. Its long-standing commitment to avoiding fertilisers and herbicides, together with its emphasis on healthy soils and expressive Cabernet Franc, has made the domaine a respected reference point in the Bourgueil appellation.
