Description
Domaine Tortochot’s Morey-Saint-Denis Aux Charmes 2023 is a charming, fruit-forward Burgundy with a rounded texture and finely integrated tannins. Made by a family with four generations of winemaking heritage in the Côte de Nuits, it combines the elegance of Morey-Saint-Denis with the character of one of its respected lieux-dits.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby-red colour, reflecting the freshness of the 2023 vintage. Its bouquet is expressive and inviting, led by ripe red berries, cherries and subtle floral notes, with gentle earthy and spicy nuances emerging beneath the fruit.
On the palate, it is generous and rounded, with supple layers of red fruit, balanced acidity and fine-grained tannins. The finish is poised and persistent, offering the structure to develop further in bottle while remaining approachable in its youth. Enjoy it over the next 5–8 years, with additional bottle age bringing greater savoury complexity.
Production
The Aux Charmes climat lies in Morey-Saint-Denis, in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, an area known for producing Pinot Noir with both finesse and underlying structure. Domaine Tortochot’s approach is centred on expressing the character of the terroir, combining ripe fruit, freshness and well-defined tannins. Specific details regarding harvesting and vinification for the 2023 cuvée have not been provided.
Food & Serving
A versatile red Burgundy, this wine pairs beautifully with roast chicken, duck, veal, pork tenderloin and mushroom-based dishes. It is also an excellent match for mildly flavoured game and classic Burgundian cuisine. Serve at 15–17°C. Decanting is not essential when young, although 30–45 minutes of air can help reveal its aromas; older bottles should be handled gently and decanted only if sediment is present.
Producer
Domaine Tortochot has been in the Tortochot family for four generations, with the family’s roots as vignerons in Gevrey reaching back to the 19th century. Today, the estate is led by Chantal Tortochot, Paul Tortochot’s great-granddaughter and a trained oenologist. As part of a new generation of Burgundy winemakers, she continues the domaine’s heritage while focusing on wines that express their terroir with clear fruit, traditional structure and a strong sense of place.
